The other day I checked out this fantastic profile of director Guillermo del Toro. Read it if you haven’t already. The man is THE ultimate fanboy.
My two favorite things about this piece are, 1) after the success of Pan’s Labyrinth del Toro went out of his way to continue making schlock, rather than becoming an “auteur” with all of that title’s pretensions to art, and, 2) that he is currently (sort of) working on an adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft‘s novel At the Mountains of Madness.
According to del Toro (and, to be fair, quite a few other people as well) At the Mountains of Madness is Lovecraft’s masterpiece, sort of a pulp Ulysses. Well, Guillermo, you’ve sold me. Over the next week or so I’m going to dig up a copy of the novel and read it. I plan on sharing my thoughts here, so stay tuned for that.
In the meantime…does anyone know of a good place to find used horror in Los Angeles?
